The XXIV AIiG PhD Summer School is organized by the University of Genoa and will focus on novel theoretical methods and views to deeply understand management and economics and the underlying social systems.
The Think Complex Summer School offers an intensive introduction to complex behavior in management and economics for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The School is for participants who seek background and hands-on experience to help them prepare to conduct multi and inter-disciplinary research in areas related to a complex system approach to social science. The program consists of an intensive series of lectures, laboratories, and discussion sessions focusing on foundational ideas, tools, and current topics in complex systems and global systems science. These include agent-based modelling and simulation, complexity management, network structure and dynamics, complexity economics, data science and process analytics, behavioral economics. In addition, participants will formulate and carry out a team project related to topics covered in the program.
The AIiG PhD Summer School is integrated with career development seminars that aim at covering relevant skills that are needed for the advancement of the career of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, both in the Academia and in the practitioner world. Three main areas have been identified as relevant: career management skills (e.g. networking, teamworking, presentation skills, job markets and interview management, time management, etc.); research management skills (e.g., publishing, reviewing papers, supervising students, proposals writing, etc.); teaching-related skills (e.g., innovative teaching methodologies, digital learning, teaching assessment, course accreditations, etc.). Every year specific skills in each area will be covered by experienced-based seminars and workshops in order to build, over the three years of the PhD programme, a complete set of skills that will reinforce the career path of AiIG young researchers. The career development seminars of the 2016 Edition of the AIiG PhD Summer School will be focused on Teamworking, Publishing in high ranked journals, Digital learning methodologies and teaching skills.
